Anilox Rollers: Precision, Durability, and Energy Efficiency
In the printing industry, Anilox rollers play a crucial role in ensuring precise ink transfer. However, the demands for performance are increasingly complex, with several key challenges to address:
- Speed & Precision: Modern printing presses operate at higher speeds, and printing screens are becoming finer. This requires an extremely uniform ink transfer, posing a challenge to maintain quality across every cycle.
- Durability: Anilox rollers undergo millions of printing cycles, making it essential for their coatings to withstand wear while maintaining a low roughness, crucial for consistent ink transfer.
- Energy Efficiency & Environmental Constraints: In an era of rising energy costs and stricter environmental requirements, every kilowatt-hour (kWh) used for depositing a coating becomes a critical factor. Additionally, energy efficiency in the process is becoming an increasingly decisive criterion.
OUR SOLUTION : PROPLASMA® TECHNOLOGY
At Saint-Gobain Coating Solutions, we've developed an advanced range of coatings to address these challenges. Our Proplasma® solution combines plasma spraying with high-quality powders to deliver exceptional results. The Proplasma® technology is available in two configurations to meet different needs:
Proplasma HP6.5 and Proplasma HP8 are our key solutions, designed for standard rollers and larger rollers used in high-volume production lines, respectively.
Ideal for standard-size rollers and quick applications, this solution provides a dense coating deposit and requires minimal energy, reducing operational costs.
Designed for larger production lines, this configuration offers a high material throughput, reducing cycle times and increasing productivity without compromising coating quality.
Both configurations use the same Proplasma® technology, ensuring the same high standard of performance, with each configuration tailored to specific application requirements.

This formulation delivers a robust, dense coating with fine pores that are homogeneously distributed. It has the highest deposition efficiency, allowing for the best productivity due to its high feed rate. Its excellent flowability, thanks to its rounded particle shape, ensures consistent results from batch to batch.
The powder’s characteristics also provide a lower power need during the spraying process, making it more energy-efficient.
The #4041 formulation provides a slightly denser coating compared to #4040, with finer pores distributed more evenly. While it offers excellent coating density, the deposition efficiency is slightly lower than the #4040 powder due to its higher specific surface area, which leads to increased vaporization losses of chromium oxide. Despite this, it remains highly effective in high-end applications requiring denser, more uniform coatings.
