Yttria Zirconia Thermal Spray Powders

Coatings that Extend Service Life in High-Temp Applications

Saint-Gobain’s yttria zirconia powders offer the highest level of deposit efficiency along with the lowest thermal conductivity to deliver maximum resistance to thermal shock, erosion & corrosion in high-temperature applications. These highly homogenous powders have very low impurity levels, thus reducing sintering. Saint-Gobain offers yttria stabilized zirconia powders in a range of formulations and particle sizes.

#202 Yttria Stabilized Zirconia Thermal Spray Powder

This highly homogenous powder with 20% yttria features a hollow sphere form for optimal deposit efficiency. The coating provides excellent thermal barrier protection in land based turbine & air engine applications.

Saint-Gobain’s #202 powder is approved for CPW 388 and Textron Lycoming M3966.  This powder also meets specifications for GE A50TF204 CL-A, PWA 36087 and LCPMC 79774.

Particle Size Options for Tailored Porosity

These hollow sphere powders feature 8% stabilized yttria with very uniform chemistry.  These products are available in a range of particle sizes to meet specific porosity demands, providing high deposit efficiency for long lasting, high performance thermal barrier coatings.

The spherical shape of the 204 powder means more uniform delivery of the powder without plugging or pulsing of feed lines. The hollow particles yield more complete melting, which further increases deposit efficiency.

Saint-Gobain’s #204 PR is recommended to achieve higher levels of porosity for optimal coating life. Contact your Saint-Gobain Coating Solutions representative to determine the optimal powder formulation for your application.

#204HP Yttria Stabilized Zirconia Thermal Spray Powder

Yttria stabilized zirconium oxide (YSZ) is a high-purity hollow sphere powder designed for increased performance in thermal barrier applications.  YSZ is most commonly used for thermal barrier applications like the hot zones for aircraft or industrial gas turbines.

The high purity increases sintering resistance provides up to double the coating life vs. standard YSZ materials.  The spherical shape produces more uniform build-up rates without clogging or pulsing of the feed lines.  In addition, the hollow particles lead to more complete melting and higher deposit efficiencies.  Crystal phase content is also tightly controlled to minimize the undesirable monoclinic phase of zirconia.  Monoclinic zirconia will expand and contract during thermal cycling and can lead to coating failure.

These coatings resist thermal shock, erosion, and corrosion in high-temperature applications.  Powder characteristics shouljd be chosen based on application, required porosity, and desired coating microstructure.
