Saint-Gobain created Rokide® flame spray equipment and rod consumables to deliver highly wear-resistant coatings that increase the life of metallic and non-metallic surfaces in high-temperature, abrasive and corrosive environments. The Rokide® process creates hard, chemically inert coatings far superior to those provided by powder systems. The bottom line: An excellent surface finish that guarantees predictable performance & longer life in a cost-effective process across a wide range of demanding applications.
The Rokide® flame spray system is unique in the industry because it uses ceramic oxide Rokide® rods as the consumable for maximum coating performance. The rods are melted in the patented spray unit, which then projects fully molten particles onto a working substrate at high velocity. The molten ceramic particles cannot leave the spray unit until in a fully molten state. These particles have high kinetic energy and high thermal mass, thus imparting a strong, dense coating.
The Rokide® system starts with a rugged, dependable unit with an easy-to-use lever operation. This feature, conveniently located on the spray unit main body, controls the electric drive motor and gases. Then, an oxygen-acetylene flame melts the rod consumables. The unit accommodates 3/16” (4.75 mm) and 1/4” (6.35 mm) diameter rods and can also easily adapt to spray 3/16” (4.75 mm) Flexicords.
Saint-Gobain offers Rokide® rods and Flexicords in a broad range of ceramic, tungsten carbide and special alloy compositions, allowing our customers to choose the optimal material for their application & process conditions.
The Rokide® flame spray system is very portable, so coating applications are possible without difficulty in both job shop and field environments.
The Rokide® flame spray system operates with a rugged, dependable, state-of-the-art electric drive unit. The ease of operation and precise rod speed control provide greater productivity along with lower operational costs when compared to other drive units.
The electric drive provides for positive rod feed throughout the entire speed range, with digital rod speed readout and automatic voltage adjustments. With a design that gives this equipment worldwide operational capability, the electric drive is another key feature that makes the Rokide® flame spray system economical to purchase, install, operate and maintain.
Several years ago, Saint-Gobain Coating Solutions introduced a newly designed RF combustion head to improve the spraying of Rokide® rods and Flexicords. The head comes standard with new spray units or can be retrofitted to older model Rokide® equipment.
The Flexicord conversion kit allows operators to spray Saint-Gobain Coating Solutions Flexicords in addition to Rokide® rods. The higher speed obtained with this kit allow operators to spray ceramic, tungsten carbide, and self-fluxing alloy flexible cords sold by Saint-Gobain Coating Solutions.
The Rokide® gun extension is designed to apply coatings inside pipes and other hard to reach places. The gun extension is available in 12” (305 mm), 24” (610 mm) and 36” (914 mm) lengths and can enter small pipe diameters of 5” (127 mm minimum).
The gun extension operates at the same spray rates as a conventional Rokide® unit.
